GoDaddy SSL Certificate

Enabling an SSL certificate on your Nucleus custom domain allows you to protect sensitive information shared through your Nucleus.

SSL is essential for protecting your website, even if your Nucleus doesn't handle sensitive information like credit cards. It provides privacy, critical security, and data integrity for both your Nucleus and your users' personal information.

Step #1 - Create Signing Request in Nucleus

The first step to securing your custom domain with an SSL certificate, is to create a signing request within Nucleus.

To begin, navigate to your Nucleus Settings page while logged in to your Nucleus account.

Then, in the left sidebar, click 'Security' under the 'Church' section.

From here, locate the Security tab and fill in the necessary information to create your SSL signing request. Here is a list of the following information that must be submitted to successfully create your SSL signing request:

  • Country Abbreviation: Click here to find your two-digit country abbreviation (Example: United States of America = US; Canada = CA)
  • State/Province/Region: Examples = "Ontario" or "Florida"
  • City: Examples = "Niagara Falls" or "Pittsburgh"
  • Organization: Examples = "Pro Church Tools Inc." or "Life Abundant Church"
  • Department: Examples = "IT" or "Administration"

Upon filling out the required form fields, click the button that reads 'Create Signing Request.'

After a few moments, your Nucleus SSL signing request will generate.

Step #2 - Authorizing Your GoDaddy SSL

To connect your Nucleus custom domain to your GoDaddy SSL, begin by purchasing a GoDaddy SSL by clicking here.

Upon purchasing a GoDaddy SSL, login to your GoDaddy account, navigate to the section titled 'SSL Certificates,' and click the button that reads 'Set Up' next to the SSL certificate you wish to activate.

From here, you'll be presented with a CSR (certificate signing request) text box where you must paste in the CSR you previously generated within Nucleus in Step #1.

Now, simply select the checkbox to agree to the SSL terms set forth by GoDaddy and click the button that reads 'Request Certificate.'

After requesting your SSL certificate, you'll be taken to a confirmation page notifying you that your SSL certificate request is pending.

Now, it's time to play the waiting game. Wait for an email from GoDaddy to confirm that your SSL certificate has been successfully issued. In our experience, this process takes around 15 minutes.

NOTE: If you're especially antsy, just keep refreshing the page until you see a confirmation page or a required additional step from GoDaddy.

Success! Your SSL certificate has been issued.

Step #3 - Add Your SSL Certificate To Your Nucleus

Now that you've been issued an SSL certificate for your custom domain, it is now time to add that certificate to your Nucleus.

First, begin by clicking on the 'Download' button to begin the download process.

Now, from the 'Server Type' dropdown menu, select 'Apache' and click 'Download Zip File.'

Step #3 - Adding Your .CRT To Nucleus

The final step in configuring your Nucleus custom domain with SSL is to add your newly downloaded .crt file to your Nucleus.

Begin by unzipping the SSL folder you downloaded from GoDaddy and open up the first file within the folder using a text tool such at TextEdit on Mac or WordPad on PC.

Now, copy the entire text contents of your .CRT file and paste them into the 'Certificate' text box on the 'Security' page in your Nucleus.

Then, click 'Install SSL.'

After a few moments, your SSL will be configured and authorized.

Success! Your custom domain should now be enabled with an SSL certificate. Well done!
